I am a 39 year old man, who for the most part is very content with life. I have a wonderful wife, Marcia, and the most beautiful daughter Gwendoline Rose. I am fairly relaxed and Marcia does enough worrying for the whole family. This gives me time to get out onto this wonderful Island and explore. It's not the biggest land mass ever discovered but it's rare in it's beauty and there are still areas that offer the peace and tranquility it deserves.
I occassionly moan about the media and it's effect on the masses, maybe, sometimes local politics gets my goat but without fail I will witness a human being doing something, in my daily life, that makes me wish I was not one of the, so called, most intelligent species on Earth. So the more time I spend on my own...the better.
I've been taking photos of birds since July 2007, when I aquired a point and shoot camera for my birthday. This kept me out of the pub and the bookies (as was intended) and I spent hours traipsing around Dorset in a clueless but fulfilled state. I'll not lie to you, the photos I took were crap, these are documented from day one on www.birdguides.com . This site was my new shrine, there were, and still are, some really accomplished photographers posting jaw dropping images of birds. I sat and spent the hours of darkness marvelling at these works of art. A passion and aspiration was born......
It took me time to learn about photography, birding and field craft and that curve is somewhat exponential. I continue to enjoy learning from others and definitely from my own mistakes!! As I have improved my skills I have also improved my equipment, but I kept this in line and when I felt I could justify expense because of imrovements then I spent. Second hand mostly, but trust me, I know people who believe that the more expensive and better the equipment is the better the photo. That could be true, but rarely is. The art of being in the right place and set up ready, the patience and planning that gets you there (and keeps you there) and the, 'if at first I don't succeed' attitude. That's what you need before you join the CPS!!
Anyway, enough preaching, enjoy my blog and images. Please do visit again, soon.
